The Hunger Games AU: Katniss escapes into the woods with her family, Gale and his family, Peeta and Haymitch before the Quarter Quell. Requested by bestunderworldkiss
We ran off into the woods, just as I had proposed.
Gale’s family came along with us, as did Prim and my mother. Peeta came as well, but never spoke of it to his family. He won’t tell us why. Haymitch was reluctant, but he agreed as well. We packed the bare minimum, and simply left one night, just before dawn.
The days are long, but I am never tired of the woods. Gale and I hunt, Peeta cooks, my mother and Prim take care of anyone who becomes ill. Thankfully we brought the plant book along with us.
I often wonder what the arena would have held for me this time, what horrors the game makers would have had in store for me.
We are all fugitives- forever running from the Capitol’s iron grip. There are days I wish we had stayed, days I’m glad we left. But one thing remains constant.
One day, we are either going to be captured and killed, tortured or turned into Avoxes. Or we will just keep running, continuously moving into the vast green of the rest of Panem with no aim in sight. One day, I asked Haymitch if there was anything else out there.
He looks at me tentatively, takes a swig of white liquor that we brought along with us, and sighs.
“There’s always District thirteen.”
